About this treatment
Abdominoplasty addresses what liposuction cannot: loose, hanging skin and separated abdominal muscles after major weight loss or pregnancy. A low horizontal incision allows the surgeon to excise redundant skin, tighten the rectus fascia and reposition the umbilicus.
Variants include mini-abdominoplasty (below-navel skin only, no muscle repair), full abdominoplasty, and extended/fleur-de-lis for massive-weight-loss patients. Drains are typically used for 5–10 days and a compression binder for 4–6 weeks.
It is a body-contouring operation, not a weight-loss procedure — candidates should be at or near stable goal weight.
Frequently asked
Tummy tuck or liposuction?+
Liposuction removes fat but does not tighten skin or repair muscle. If skin is loose or muscles are separated, a tummy tuck is required.
Will there be a scar?+
Yes — a low horizontal scar that can usually be hidden by underwear. Scar quality improves over 12–18 months.
When can I exercise?+
Walking from day 1, light cardio at 4 weeks, core work only after 6–8 weeks with surgeon clearance.
